The one caveat is I am learning to hit the 4-iron with consistency, but I bought a U-Hi 4-iron for that purpose. Over the summer of 2020 I demoed a lot of clubs from a lot of manufacturers and to my surprise I hit the Icon blades better than anything else I tested. I am a mid-handicap player (80s, 90s, 100s on really bad driving day) but I love my chrome Icon irons. These blades are not just for scratch golfers Nickel-chrome is also very durable, and has been a proven way to protect forged club heads and ensure they look great for years to come.Įither way, the ICON irons and will deliver that soft, buttery feel that all Ben Hogan forged irons and wedges are famous for. ICON chrome irons have a nickel-chrome finish for players who prefer a more traditional look. The Diamond Black Metal finish adds no weight to the club head. The Diamond Black Metal finish reduces wear on the grooves so better players can impact the spin necessary to shape shots left and right, or flight shots up and down. The Diamond Black Metal finish is incredibly durable much more so than 'painted' dark finishes used by other companies. Graphics on the rear include the BH sunburst and Ben Hogan signature logos - as well as “ICON” subtly engraved into the high toe and “FORGED” along the length of the hosel. Regardless of the finish, the iron number is etched in red along the sole. The standard 4-iron-through-pitching-wedge set configuration is available in a traditional and durable nickel chrome finish, as well as a darker and sultry DBM (Diamond Black Metal). There’s nothing else quite like it in golf. Hogan once described that blissful sensation as running from your hands up your arms and into your heart. Take comfort in knowing that ICON gives you the opportunity to hit your mark on every shot while feeling the satisfying, buttery pureness of flush contact. It's the kind of club the Ben Hogan brand is known for and epitomizes Hogan’s “forged feel feedback” theme. Think about everything better players look for and demand in their irons. True shot makers will consider these their new best friends - thanks to an inviting look, top-notch craftsmanship, and several key trademarks incorporated into the design. Designed with the graceful blend of traditional styling and modern performance, they’re well-suited for accomplished players wanting to work the ball. Ever since, the Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company has embraced this mantra with every golf club we’ve produced.Īnd the new ICON irons are textbook Hogan, carrying on that heritage of high-quality, beautifully forged, contemporary muscle backs and placing it in a re-imagined package. “Best performing, best feel and with the best eye appeal.” That’s what the legendary Ben Hogan typed out to PGA Professionals, in a 1953 letter promising the merits of his new brand’s debut clubs. You have to buy the clubs directly from the company, which by the way is run by an industry veteran who previously worked for high-end club manufacturers. His words linger as if they were just written today. I just want golfers to know that this brand is back with quality clubs that perform pretty well. So why am I bringing this up? After all, this isn’t a review of the clubs. Last year, I tried some of the company’s then-new irons and came away equally as impressed. That said, it’s gorgeous and very easy on the eyes when lining up putts. It’s heavier than my regular putter, so the feel was a little off for me. The putter I’ve been trying is a blade style with an oversized grip. Yet I was overall pleased with the results. Mind you, I was using off-the-rack versions of the Hogans and was in no way fitted for them. The matching fairway woods were also fine, but I didn’t personally feel I was getting quite the ball flight with them that I was with my own customized woods. One thing everyone commented on was the accuracy: Almost every shot I hit with it or saw hit with it seemed to find the fairway. Nearly everyone achieved at least the same distance with it as they did with their own gamer.

The driver has surprised me and everyone else who has tried it - which has probably totaled about 10 friends and people I’ve been paired up with.
